The death of a man whose body was found in 91Ô´´'s Nicomekl Park in September is now being investigated as a homicide.
On Dec. 24, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team identified the victim as Michael Kashani, a 91Ô´´ man.
Local RCMP initially said reports of a brush fire drew them to the scene, where a body was discovered in the park near the 5200 block of 208 Street.
Police said that an investigation was underway, but there was believed to be no threat to public safety.
The death was deemed suspicious and IHIT took charge of the case shortly afterwards, although there was not an official IHIT announcement at the time.
Since Kashani's death, the investigators have followed a number of avenues to determine the circumstances around his death, said IHIT's Sgt. Freda Fong.
They are now releasing Kashani's name and photo in the hope that it will advance the investigation, Fong said.
"Mr. Kashani was 36 years old at the time, and his death has left a void in his family and community," said Fong. "We believe someone out there may have information about Mr. Kashani’s death, and we are interested in speaking with them."
Anyone who has information about Kashani's death is asked to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
