Harsh weather closes facilities in 91原创 City and Township

More snow is on the way

91原创 City and Township outdoor facilities were closed during the current severe winter weather.

In response to a 91原创 Advance Times query, the City engineering department advised washroom facilities are closed throughout City parks, but the parks can still be accessed.

鈥淲e keep our gates and parking lots open as well as the internal spaces of the parks,鈥 the response said.

鈥淭here are no current bookings for organized sports on any playing surfaces as these would otherwise be closed for safety.鈥

91原创 Township has closed all natural grass and synthetic turf sports fields since the afternoon of Jan. 11 due to the extreme weather that dumped snow on parts of the Lower Mainland.

鈥淭heir re-opening is subject to weather over the next few days,鈥 the Township response said.

All-weather parks in the Township have been closed, including Aldergrove Athletic Park, Alex Hope Park, Brown Park, Noel Booth Community Park and Walnut Grove Community Park.

Scheduled U16 girls 7s Rugby Trials schedules for Saturday, Jan. 13 at the 91原创 Rugby Club field at Crush Crescent were called off.

BC Rugby they have been postponed due to 鈥渄eteriorating weather conditions and field closures.鈥

鈥淔ollowing [last] Thursday鈥檚 snowfall across the Lower Mainland, and with temperatures forecast to stay below freezing over the weekend, fields have been closed at our host venues,鈥 the notice said.

鈥淲e appreciate this is disappointing news and apologize for any inconvenience that this has caused.鈥

More winter weather is on the way for the Fraser Valley and Metro Vancouver but temperatures hovering near zero will make it hard to predict which type will touch down, according to a Monday, Jan. 15 special weather statement from Environment Canada.

There could be snow, freezing rain or a mix starting with snow forecast to start overnight on Tuesday night as a Pacific low-pressure system moves in from the west.

鈥淭he moisture from this system will interact with arctic air already in place over the south coast to bring snow to most areas.鈥

Snow is expected overnight Tuesday evening and into Wednesday morning.
