Freezing rain forecast for Fraser Valley today and Friday

Environment Canada says freezing rain is expected to begin late Thursday afternoon

A prolonged period of freezing rain is expected for the Fraser Valley from late this afternoon (Jan. 18) to Friday (Jan. 19) afternoon.

According to a weather warning from Environment Canada, the rain is forecast for Mission, Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Agassiz, 91原创 and Hope.

鈥淎 Pacific frontal system combined with lingering cold air under outflow conditions will produce an extended period of freezing rain. Snow will develop first late this afternoon over western sections of the Fraser Valley, then transition to freezing rain late in the evening,鈥 the weather statement reads.

Environment Canada says the freezing rain is expected to persist through Friday morning over Abbotsford and Friday afternoon over Chilliwack, then transition to rain. In 91原创, it鈥檚 expected to transition to rain on Thursday night.

Snow is in the forecast for Hope tonight, changing to freezing rain on Friday morning and lasting through Friday evening.

Environment Canada advises that surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery.

鈥淭ake extra care when walking or driving in affected areas. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions,鈥 the warning reads.
