Petrina Arnason, a former two-term 91Ô´´ Township councillor, has thrown her hat into the ring as a Green Party candidate in the next provincial election.
Arnason's campaign was announced earlier in June.
"It’s an honour to stand for the B.C. Greens in 91Ô´´-Willowbrook," Arnason said in a statement. "My focus is on climate action, addressing homelessness, and enhancing seniors' policies. I am dedicated to fostering collaboration and driving sustainable community solutions."
Arnason served on Township council from 2014 to 2022, and said her experience in local government will inform her new role if she's elected.
"I've had eight years of experience of being connected to not only the community, but other orders of government," Arnason said.
Among issues she hopes to focus on are SkyTrain and its impact on the community.
Arnason said the impact it has on housing and avoiding displacement of existing, low-income residents is vital.
"Affordability is a huge issue," she said.
She's also focused on the need for social amenities, including ensuring the 91Ô´´s have enough facilities like seniors centres and adult daycares as the population ages.
The election is expected to take place this October.
