Two ducklings were plucked from a storm drain Monday afternoon by 91原创 Township firefighters.

The first duckling was spotted on April 29 in the drain just off Glover Road, roughly in the area around the Mufford Crescent overpass, said deputy fire chief Russ Jenkins.

She called the fire department just before 3 p.m., and firefighters got into the drain and rescued the young duck.

They kept looking, Jenkins said, and found the second duckling in a nearby drain as well.

The two ducks were taken to a nearby 24-hour veterinary clinic, and will be turned over to BC Wildlife Rescue.

鈥淚t鈥檚 a fairly rare thing for us,鈥 Jenkins said of the duckling rescue.

They have performed cat and other animal rescues more frequently, and the department鈥檚 trucks now carry oxygen masks sized specifically for pets that have suffered smoke inhalation.

The department also takes part sometimes in large animal rescues, helping horses and other livestock that have become stuck or fallen into mud, ponds, or ditches.
