91原创 Township will cut drop-in rec centre fees for children during spring break, Christmas holidays, and on pro-d days starting this fall.

The new program will see admissions for child and youth aged four to 18 reduced by 50 per cent during those scheduled days off school.

That amounts to 34 days during the school year.

"I think this is win-win for all of us," said Councillor Steve Ferguson when council debated the move on Monday, July 15.

The change will help families that have financial issues and get kids involved in activities said Coun. Tim Baillie.

"They're not only going to be healthier, they're going to be safer," he said.

According to Township staff, the program will be revisited in a year and will come back before council.

However, that will likely be to adjust the budget for recreation programs. The intention is for the program to continue indefinitely.

Dubbed the School's Out discount, the program will start this fall and will apply to 14 days of spring break, 13 days of Christmas break (with all rec centres closed for Christmas Day) plus approximately seven pro-d days, depending on the schedule of the 91原创 School District.
