ELECTION: Polls are closed, now comes the count

Advance voting proved popular with a record number of voters.

British Columbia voters have had their chance to exercise their franchise and now the polls are closed as of 8 p.m.

Results will be posted on langleyadvancetimes.com and aldergrovestar.com as they become available.

Leading up to the election there was strong interest in voting. The public turned out in record numbers for advance polls but those results are not made public before General Voting Day on Oct. 19. More than one million people voted in six days of advance voting. That's more than 28 per cent of registered voters.

The last time 91Ô´´ went to the polls to elect provincial representatives was Oct. 24, 2020. Casting a ballot had to be done differently during the height of the pandemic.

Elections BC said it has received an unprecedented number of vote-by-mail package requests for the 2020 campaign. As of Oct.. 13, 2020, some 680,000 voters have requested vote-by-mail packages – that’s compared to 6,517 requests in the 2017 election.
