The man who served as the nomination campaign manager for gourmet-hotdog vendor Skully White has announced he is replacing White as the federal Conservative nomination candidate in Abbotsford-South 91原创.
Dustin Lee Hiles had worked for the last six months with White, who announced on Dec. 5 that he was stepping down from seeking the nomination to focus on his family and his kidney-donation campaign.
The federal Abbotsford-South 91原创 riding replaces the Abbotsford riding, which is currently held by Conservative MP Ed Fast, who in March announced he will retire from federal politics after 18 years.
White became the fifth person to announce he was seeking the nomination for the riding. No date has yet been announced for the nomination vote. The next federal election is slated for Oct. 20, 2025.
White is now Hiles' campaign chair.
"Dustin is an incredible young man with the determination and vision to lead the next generation of young Conservatives, the generational hand-over Ed Fast envisioned when he announced his retirement," White said.
"Having worked these past six months with Dustin has only solidified my opinion that he is the only candidate who will actually put families first. He has my one hundred percent support."
Hiles is an opera singer who was a special assistant to Canada鈥檚 longest-serving speaker of the House of Commons, Liberal MP Peter Milliken from Ontario.
No longer with the Liberals, he describes himself as a "pro-life Ukrainian Catholic activist" who is "committed to fighting for affordability as families are struggling under the weight of Trudeau's crippling carbon tax, inflation, and an unprecedented housing crisis."
Hiles says his background as being both Indigenous Pacific Islander and Ukrainian provides him with a "broad prospective" on the country's challenges, particularly in the areas of multiculturalism, national identity and human rights.
He was raised between Abbotsford and Mission, graduating from St. John Brebeuf Catholic High School and then the University of Manitoba.
Hiles ran for mayor of Mission in 2022, when Paul Horn was re-elected.
He says he will fight to "axe the tax" and stand with Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre to tackle the housing crisis and "make life more affordable for families."
Hiles said that under the Trudeau government, there has been an "erosion of our freedoms, a disregard for parental rights and a disturbing trend toward overreach in every aspect of our lives."
"I will challenge Trudeau鈥檚 destructive woke social policies, which divide Canadians and impose dangerous and divisive ideologies," he said.
Also seeking the Conservative party nomination in Abbotsford-South 91原创 are former longtime Abbotsford West MLA Mike de Jong; Fast鈥檚 executive assistant, Mike Murray; Steve Schafer, the vice-president of the 91原创-Aldergrove Constituency Association; and Shanjeelin Dwivedi, who has served as a director of parliamentary affairs with two MPs as well as a senior adviser and campaign volunteer.
