A group of young students from Green Tree Montessori Children鈥檚 Centre made a special pilgrimage to the Aldergrove cenotaph earlier this week.
Ahead of Remembrance Day, the kids created their own 鈥淟est We Forget鈥 poster, complete with handpainted poppies, and delivered it, in person, to the Royal Canadian Legion鈥檚 Aldergrove branch Thursday, explained Vivian Lillico, who was touched by the gesture.
鈥淭he children from the Montessori school made this plaque, and were all there Thursday morning presenting it to the legion,鈥 explained Lillico, a retired master corporal and 20-year veteran, currently Sgt.-at-arms for the legion鈥檚 ladies auxiliary.
She elaborated on how meaningful it was to see young children so engage in Remembrance Day and all it stands for. And it meant a lot to here and other members of the legion to see the kids be the first to pay tribute to the local fallen and to see a new plaque mounted at the Aldergrove cenotaph.
The new plaque, officially being unveiled during today鈥檚 (Saturday鈥檚) Remembrance Day services, features a list of local soldiers who lost their lives in the First and Second World Wars, while fighting for 鈥渙ur country and freedom,鈥 Lillico said.

鈥淲e鈥檝e gathered all the names in 91原创 from all the different sources, to get them in one place at the legion here, so that it鈥檚 a focal point on Remembrance Day, in that these people get remembered,鈥 she said recently, when sharing news of the plaque.
鈥淚t鈥檚 the first time since 1945 (78 years) [that] a complete list of our fallen will be placed on a cenotaph. Saturday will be a very historic day,鈥 Lillico concluded, noting the ceremonies start at 10:50 a.m.
