Cloverdale-91原创 City鈥檚 federal riding is officially vacant, and the government is likely to call a by-election before the end of the year.

Liberal MP John Aldag announced earlier this spring that he is stepping down from the post. He is seeking NDP nomination to run provincially for a seat as MLA in the 91原创-Abbotsford riding.

Canada鈥檚 Chief Electoral Officer, St茅phane Perrault, announced that the local vote must be called by the federal government this year, with the announcement any time between June 14 and Nov. 30.

The announcement will mark the story of the byelection campaign, which can last between 36 and 50 days. That would put the absolute final date for a by-election in early January next year.

By-elections are held on Mondays.
