A 91原创 poultry farm is one of 16 farms and small flocks around the province where avian flu has been detected since Oct. 20, the provincial Ministry of Agriculture said.

The 91原创 case was one of two detected in the province on Nov. 4, along with a case in Abbotsford.

There have been cases detected at eight commercial flocks in the Fraser Valley and two small flocks in Merritt and Port McNeill.

Ministry staff are working with farmers and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency on enhanced biosecurity measures.

In October, B.C.鈥檚 chief veterinarian ordered restrictions on poultry events, including shows, markets and auctions, as well as ordering commercial farms to keep birds indoors.

Anyone who finds a sick or dead bird should leave it where it is, and report it to B.C.鈥檚 wild bird surveillance hotline at 1-866-431-BIRD (2473).

For poultry owners who suspect their birds may have avian influenza, they should call their veterinarian, their nearest CFIA animal health office or the BC Animal Health Centre at 1-800-661-9903.
