Arson guts shed in 91原创 City

Firefighters doused the flames quickly, but police are investigating

91原创 RCMP and City firefighters are investigating a blaze that gutted a backyard shed Monday morning as arson.

The first 911 calls about the incident came in at around 8:42 a.m., bringing police and 91原创 City Fire Rescue crews to a home in the 20800 block of 52A Avenue.

A large plume of smoke was rising from a shed in the back yard of an older single-family home.

Firefighters knocked down the fire within about five minutes of arriving on scene, but the shed was heavily damaged, said Deputy Chief Dean Colthorp.

鈥淚t is believed to be arson,鈥 said Sgt. Barry Beales of the 91原创 RCMP. 鈥淲e don鈥檛 believe it happened naturally.鈥

No one was hurt in the fire.

The house, which has a boarded up window and another covered in tinfoil, is a rental property, Beales said.

He confirmed that police have been to the property several times over the past few months. Those were for issues related to the Residential Tenancy Act, and disputes between the landlord and tenants, Beales said.
