Aldergrove's senior track and field star Harnek Toor added to his considerable collection of medals at the Canadian Masters Athletics Championship held in Montreal the August long weekend. 

Toor, 78, won four gold medals in the hammer throw, javelin throw, weight throw, and throw pentathlon. 

The throws pentathlon tests athletes in five events 鈥� hammer, shot put, discus, javelin and weight throw.

He won two silver medals in the discus throw and shot put as well. 

Toor competed in the 75 to 79 year age group. 

"This achievement may prove to be a catalyst for others to join their band wagan to make the city proud," he told The Star. 

Almost 360 athletes competed from Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the United States in a variety of track-and-field events.

鈥淢asters鈥� are defined as men and women ages 35 and older.

Toor will next compete in September. 

In the last three years, Toor has held the Canadian record for throws pentathlon and weight throw, which happen to be his favourite competitions. 

Toor encourages seniors to also participate in sports because it "triggers positive feelings which help ward off inactivity and lethargy." 

"[I've] met new competitors and made new friends both from Canada and other countries... Every time I go out I [also] meet old Olympians and World Champions," Toor said. 

But for competing competitively in throwing competitions, Toor said he would like to see improved indoor training facilities for all types of track and field events in the Lower Mainland to make it more accessible for seniors.
