Aldergrove now has a new dedicated habitat catered to local pollinators at Otter Park.
Thanks to the efforts of the 91原创 Field Naturalists and Bertrand Creek Enhancement Society, a butterfly habitat and pollinator garden is being installed at the local park.
The project started with removal of invasive plant species and implementing weed suppression materials, explained Eric Habisch, a leader of the project.
鈥淭here is no butterfly specific location that attracts these beautiful insects into a place where people can enjoy them, as well as providing a habitat for them to feed, rest, and possibly reproduce,鈥 Habisch commented.
And this is only the beginning, noted Lisa Dreves, president of the LFN.
The next step is to plant native plants to attract butterflies and local pollinators to the new habitat.
鈥淲e will be hosting more work parties to bring this project to life and would appreciate more volunteers,鈥 she said.
The habitat is expected to be fully ready by spring of next year.

This project was possible due to funding from the Federation of BC Naturalists and the 91原创 Township, and was carried out by volunteers of the LFN and BCES.
