A year-and-a-half later after moving into Aldergrove, there is still lots to do to make the Kindred Farm Sancutary home for its various rescued animals and therapeutic programs for youth.
Kindred is calling for "all boots on the ground" to raise enough funds to replace the old, dilapidated barn on its Aldergrove property, due to crumbling foundation and a leaking roof.
Total construction cost for a new barn is $200,000, and Kindred has raised $60,000 so far, said founder Keryn Denroche.
"We have an urgent need to replace the unsafe and dilapidated barn. I believe our community will join us in building a safe, welcoming space for children to heal from trauma," Denroche said.
Currently, some safer parts of the structure is housing about 30 rescued rabbits for the Rabbitats Society.
"We want to build a Children's Barn here," Denroche said. "A big pole barn with red metal siding, built to last a long time."
The new barn would house the rabbits, chickens, Frankie the pig, and more. Kindred also wants to build outdoor paddocks alongside the new barn so the animals can go outside to play.
In an effort to raise further funds, Kindred has opened a 50/50 raffle called "All Boots on the Ground." The draw date is Dec. 15.
"Every ticket brings the farm closer to its goal," she said.
Tickets start at one for $10, four for $20, 20 for $50, and 100 for $100, and can be bought online at .
The jackpot currently sits around $15,000.
Denroche said they also need someone or a company that could do permanent fencing on the farm, an expert on ponds, and more volunteers that can help with maintenance on the property.
Anyone who is able to volunteer their time is asked to contact the farm at info@sali.ca.
The farm was founded in 2008, originally named Semiahmoo Animal League, to host a place for rescued farm animals and offer therapeutic programs for youth.
By 2011, the farm began its first program for at-risk children at its horse stable in Fort 91Ô´´, at the time.
A few years later, the farm moved to a property in Cloverdale, which it resided at until moving to Aldergrove in 2023.
