Aldergrove alpaca farm hosts first farmers market

Kensington Prairie Farm will host a 'Farmers and Makers Alpaca Market' on Saturday, Aug. 17

Aldergrove's iconic alpaca farm is holding its first farmers market on Saturday, Aug. 17.

Dee Milton, farm manager and granddaughter of Kensington Prairie Farm owners Jim Dales and Catherine Simpson, said they wanted to hold a market in honour of the usual Aldergrove summer farmers markets.

"Knowing how much work goes into putting on events, we were sad to know the community of Aldergrove was going to slow down on farmers markets," she said.

"As a way to honour our neighbours, community, and local farmers, we decided that we would host one market this summer with the hopes of bringing community together."

The Farmers and Makers Alpaca Market runs for one day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the farm, and will feature a beer garden, live music, local farmers and vendors, food trucks, bunny snuggles, and lots of alpaca-related activities including yoga – advanced booking is required for alpaca yoga and includes entrance to the market.

"We will have information sessions with the alpacas every 30 minutes, bunnies to visit, and some new baby alpacas on the farm to visit," Milton said.

She noted the babies don't have names yet, and is hoping guests at the event may have theme ideas to name them under.

Tickets are $7.50 and can be purchased in advance online at . Kids five years old and younger enter for free.

Kensington Prairie Farm is located at 1736 248 St.
