A 48-hour enforcement project that saw the 91原创 RCMP team up with several other police units resulted in 50 arrests, the seizure of six vehicles, and the discovery of $15,000 worth of drugs, police say.
The operation took place on Jan. 30 and 31 and involved 91原创 RCMP's Special Response Team, Community Response Unit, and Gang Enforcement Team, along with the Surrey Provincial Operations Support Unit, Metro Vancouver Transit Police's Crime Suppression Team, and the Integrated Police Dog Services.
Officers took part in "proactive enforcement measures" which included traffic stops and foot patrols in specific areas, said Sgt. Zynal Sharoom, spokesperson for the 91原创 RCMP.
A total of 50 people were arrested or detained, and drugs were seized from both vehicles and people suspected of involvement in drug trafficking.
One of the drug seizures came from a hidden compartment in one of the cars stopped.
"We saw officers from different agencies unite under a common goal and the strength of their collaboration became the greatest weapon against organized crime," said Insp. David Wise of the 91原创 RCMP. "The officers' expertise and in-depth knowledge of drug trafficking enabled them to successfully locate the illicit drugs that were concealed in a hidden compartment during a vehicle stop."
All of the people arrested have been released, pending further investigation, Sharoom said.
