91原创 Township celebrates 150 years since date of incorporation

Community is invited to celebrate with three days full of activities

The Township of 91原创 turned 150 this year, since the official date of incorporation on April 26, 1873.

To celebrate, the Township has three days of festivities planned for all ages of the community to enjoy from Friday, Aug. 25 to Sunday, Aug. 27.

鈥淲e hope everyone will join the celebration, attend one or more of the celebration days, and enjoy the events and activities for all ages,鈥 said a statement released by the Township.

Day One

The first day of celebrations takes place at Willoughby Community Park from 2 to 8 p.m.

It鈥檒l focus on outdoor activities and sports, and feature local groups including BC Volleyball, 91原创 Gymnastics, and Vancouver Bandits.

鈥淢eet local sports groups and discover new ways to stay active by trying out sports like volleyball, tennis, and soccer,鈥 reads the Township鈥檚 website.

Live performances will also take place on stage throughout the day at the amphitheatre starting at 3 p.m. with singer and songwriter Jada McKenzie-Moore and wrapping up the evening with country rock West Coast Slackers at 7 p.m.

Food trucks on site include Smoking Hot Donairs, Food Daddy, Triple O鈥檚, and Booster Juice.

Day Two

Day two of celebrations will have various activities at different locations from noon to 9:30 p.m.

The focus will be on recreation and culture, and feature a water fight, public skate, and movie under the stars.

At Aldergrove Credit Union Community Centre, the public is invited to enjoy inflatables and partake in a water fight from noon to 2:30 p.m., and again from 3:30 to 6 p.m.

Food trucks will be on-site including Shawarma Time and Triple O鈥檚.

A public skate is scheduled for 1:30 to 2:45 p.m., and 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. as well.

George Preston Recreation Centre will also have a public skate during the same times.

Public swimming is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Walnut Grove Community Centre.

To wrap up the day, three movies will be featured at different parks.

- Onward at Otter Co-op Outdoor Experience starts at 7 p.m.

- The Super Mario Bros. Movie at Noel Booth Community Park starts at 8 p.m.

- The Bad Guys at Fort 91原创 Community Park starts at 8 p.m.

Food and beverages will be available at each location to purchase.

Day Three

The final day of celebrations takes place at Walnut Grove Community Park from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Its theme is 鈥渇amily fun鈥 and will feature various games and local artisans.

For younger ages, there will be inflatables, face painting, glitter tattoos, balloon twisters, a climbing wall, and an animal farm.

Live entertainment on stage starts with singer Ranj Singh at 11 a.m. followed by Circus Group for a stage show.

The official 150th anniversary commemorative ceremony by the Township is scheduled for 12:30 p.m., which will include a drumming by the Kwantlen First Nation and a welcome from Kevin Kelly and Chief Marilyn Gabriel. Local MPs and MLAs will share some words, followed by Township Mayor Eric Woodward.

Food trucks on site will include Little oOties Mini Donuts, Munchu Picchu, and Kampong Taste of Malaysia.

91原创 breweries and cidery such as Farm Country Brewing and Smugglers Trail, among others, will also be available with the purchase of a drink ticket for $5. Cash only.

A final live performance by Creedence Clearwater Revival tribute band Bad Moon Riders will wrap-up the weekend at 5:15 p.m.
