91原创-based Preston Chevrolet Cadillac Buick GMC has won a coveted Clean Energy Vehicle for BC Green Star Award for their significant growth in electric vehicle (EV) sales.

Preston Chevrolet Cadillac Buick GMC has gone from three EV sales in 2015 to 33 in 2016.

Their top selling electric vehicle is the Chevrolet Volt, but the Chevrolet Bolt EV is a close second.

The Volt battery range is 85km, with a full range of 676 km. At $38,490 cost with a $5,000 incentive refund from the government, the Volt is becoming a popular vehicle on the road.

鈥淭he Green Star Award is a significant achievement in the sales of clean energy vehicles in British Columbia,鈥� said Blair Qualey, President and CEO of the New Car Dealers Association of BC who announced Preston鈥檚 award.

The Green Star Awards are a series of Clean Energy for B.C. program dealer awards that specifically recognize the highest number of Clean Energy Vehicle sales across all brands, by provincial region (Lower Mainland, Vancouver Island, Interior and Northern BC).

鈥淥ne of the reasons for such growth was ensuring our customers knew about the reinstatement of the British Columbia鈥檚 CEVforBC鈩� program and the significant incentives they could receive when purchasing a qualifying vehicle. We are hoping to increase sales again in 2017.鈥�

EV sales have been steadily increasing, with 11,000 EVs being sold in Canada in 2016 鈥� a 56 per cent increase from the previous year, according to numbers from FleetCarma, a Canadian auto research firm. To date, there are about 30,000 EVs on Canadian roads. Nearly 95 per cent of these sales occurred in B.C., Ontario and Quebec.

One of the reasons for the increase is due to the incentive programs available to consumers including the CEVforBC鈩� program, which is funded by the Province of B.C. and administered by the New Car Dealers Association. It offers up to $5,000 to B.C. residents who purchase or lease an eligible new battery electric or plug-in hybrid electric vehicle.

Since the CEVforBC鈩� program began in 2011, the government has committed more than $14.5 million for vehicle incentives and charging stations to make clean energy vehicles more affordable and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The Township and City have increased the amount of charging stations in 91原创l. Also, most cities have added special parking for EV vehicles in parking garages and lots.

In March 2017, the province saw four per cent of new car sales as EVs, helping to ensure B.C. is on track for a selling target of five per cent of light duty vehicle sales by 2020.
