One of the top basketball trainers on the planet is making a stop in Abbotsford for a day of special training sessions.

Trainer Jordan Lawley, who has worked with dozens of NBA players including Klay Thompson and Zach Levine, along with Abbotsford product and international basketball star Marek Klassen will be hosting the Jordan Lawley X Hooper IQ NBA Skills Training Sessions event on Saturday (Oct. 12).

The sessions are for both men and women and occur at Columbia Bible College. They begin with middle school (Grades 6 to 8) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., high school (Grade 9 to 12) from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. and then college/pro from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Klassen stated that he and Lawley are partners on the new Hooper IQ app, which focuses on helping athletes understand the decision making that goes into basketball. He said he's excited to bring Lawley to his hometown and give locals a rare opportunity to train with one of the best.

"I was given some incredible opportunities to experience high level basketball at a young age, and it had a major impact on how I have approached my career," he said. "I have a heart for bringing some of my experiences and connections to the kids and community here in BC. While Jordan is elite, he brings a very down to earth and positive approach to the game so all skill levels are more than welcome at the training sessions."

Klassen, a Yale Secondary grad, has played professionally all over Europe and most recently in Poland and Greece.

He is a former B.C. provincial player of the year and was named the B.C. AAA high school tournament鈥檚 most valuable player when he helped lead the Yale Lions to a provincial title in 2010.
