The 2025 Abbotsford International Airshow, set for Aug. 8 to 10, is slowly taking shape and it will feature the return of the United States AIr Force's F-35A Lightning II demo team.
The team confirmed an appearance in Abbotsford on social media in December. The F-35 last performed in Abbotsford in 2023.
The F-35 first was displayed at the AIA in 2016. The aircraft costs approximately $82.5 million USD to produce.
The 2025 airshow also marks the Abbotsford debut of the KC-46 demo team.
The KC-46 is a refuelling tanker and was introduced for use by the USAF in 2019. It's a variant of the Boeing 767 and is also used by Japan Air Self-Defense Force.
The Canadian Forces Snowbirds are also confirmed to return for 2025.
August will be a busy month for the Snowbirds, with other stops in Fort St. John, Penticton, Edmonton and Toronto. July will see the Snowbirds perform in Vancouver and at the Boundary Bay Airshow.
Online reports have stated that both the MiG-17 Fresco and Nathan Hammond's Ghostwriter are also likely to be appearing. The MiG-17 Fresco was a high-subsonic fighter aircraft produced in the Soviet Union in the 1950s. It has been nearly 20 years since the MiG-17 Fresco has appeared at the AIA.
