One man dead after Saturday truck crash in Surrey

Vehicle collides with bus stop, injuring 2 pedestrians and nearby property

One person has died after a truck crash Saturday afternoon (Oct. 5) in Surrey.

Surrey RCMP is asking for the public's help to determine what happened in the collision, which happened on 144 Street near 67A Avenue at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 5.

Police responded to a report of a fatal motor vehicle collision near 144 Street and Hyland Drive, according to a Surrey RCMP release.

A Ford F350 was travelling northbound on 144 Street when it crossed into oncoming traffic. The vehicle then collided with a bus stop bench, injuring two pedestrians and causing damage to the surrounding property.

One 33-year-old man was declared dead at the scene, the release noted. A second male in his 30s received minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

The driver of the suspect vehicle remained on scene and was arrested by RCMP traffic officers.

Drugs and speed have not been ruled out as contributing factors in this collision; the incident is still under investigation.
