A man has been found guilty of murder in a 2019 gas station shooting in Surrey.
Carlos Monteith was found guilty of first-degree murder of 29-year-old Kristijan Coric after a shooting at a gas station in the 18600-block of Fraser Highway, in the Clayton Heights area of Surrey, almost six years ago.
On September 28, 2019, just after 6 p.m., a man was shot and killed while seated inside his vehicle. The victim was later identified Coric, a Surrey resident.
鈥淭his was a brazen shooting at a busy gas station,鈥 Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT, said in a press release. "Targeted shootings such as this one adds to the layers of complexity involved in the investigation.鈥
Monteith was found guilty in B.C. Supreme Court in New Westmeinster on March 14. The jury's verdict means and automatic life sentence, with no eligibility for parole for 25 years. Court proceedings, began Feb. 3.
"A guilty verdict reflects our unwavering commitment to justice, the hard work and strong partnership between our investigators, policing partners and the BC Prosecution Service," Fong added.
Monteith will appear in court March 27 to schedule a date for the sentencing hearing.
