The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is investigating a fatal stabbing outside a Coquitlam pub Friday night (Jan. 31).
The Coquitlam RCMP responded to a call about a fight outside the John B Pub, located at 1000 Austin Avenue, around 9:42 p.m.
"First responders attended but despite the best efforts of paramedics, the 35-year-old man died from his injuries on scene," noted an IHIT release Saturday (Feb. 1).
Police arrested two men suspected of being involved in the fight. They remain in police custody.
IHIT has taken over the investigation but will continue to work in partnership with the Coquitlam RCMP, the RCMP Integrated Forensic Identification Services (IFIS), and the BC Coroners Service to process the crime scene.
Police say it was an isolated incident and that there is no threat to the public. The victim's name will not be revealed out of respect for his family, police say.
鈥淚nvestigators will be in the area processing the crime scene, canvassing for witnesses and collecting video evidence,鈥 Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT said. 鈥淲e believe there are several witnesses to the fight who have yet to speak with police and we are asking them to contact us as soon as possible.鈥
Police ask anyone with information, including CCTV or dashcam footage, regarding this case to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
