Justin Bos has pleaded guilty to one count of manslaughter in the death of 30-year old Cody Mostat of 91原创 on March 25, 2022 at the Highway Hotel in Walnut Grove.

Justin Bos of Surrey has pleaded guilty to one count of manslaughter with a firearm in the 2022 shooting of Cody Mostat of 91原创 at a Walnut Grove hotel.

Bos made the plea during a Dec. 20 court appearance, Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) Sgt. Freda Fong said in a statement released Wednesday Jan. 22.

鈥淎 guilty plea reflects the hard work and dedication of our investigators and their collaboration with our policing partners and the BC Prosecution Service,鈥 said Sgt. Fong.

鈥淢r. Bos was a repeat offender and keeping him off the streets was important to us for public safety.鈥

On March 25, 2022, at 8:49 p.m., 91原创 RCMP responded to a report of an unconscious man in the 20400-block of 88 Ave. at the Highway Hotel in 91原创's Walnut Grove neighbourhood.

Officers attended and attempted life-saving efforts, but the man, identified as 30-year old Cody Mostat of 91原创, died on scene.

Mostat had grown up in Powell River and had worked as a welder for a commercial truck dealer.

According to an obituary posted by Mostat鈥檚 family, a 2011 injury suffered while welding derailed his life.

When he fell off a scaffold and broke his foot and ankle, the obituary said the injury "led to his self-medication and ongoing struggles with addictions.鈥

Court records from a lawsuit, in which he was a witness, noted that Mostat was prescribed opioids for his injury, but began self-medicating with street drugs. He had a number of criminal charges beginning in 2011, mostly related to drug possession, in Powell River and spent some time in prison.

Following a six-month investigation, the 39-year-old Bos was identified as a suspect in the Mostat case and arrested.

On Sept. 22, 2022, Bos was charged with the second-degree murder of Mostat.

Bos is facing sentencing for multiple offences including a second count of manslaughter with a firearm for the homicide of Troy Regnier.

At that trial, the prosecutor said Regnier was using methamphetamine, and sent a number of texts in which he threatened to harm his ex's new boyfriend. Bos was a housemate of the new boyfriend.

On the night of Aug. 27, 2022, Regnier arrived at the woman's house carrying a wooden stick with nails in it and a can of bear spray, where he was confronted by Bos, who was wearing body armour and carrying a gun, and ended up shooting Regnier.

Bos' record includes a 2020 conviction for possession of stolen property and possession of a non-firearm prohibited weapon in Surrey. He was found guilty of car theft in 91原创 the same year.

In 2012, Bos was charged in Abbotsford with drug possession for the purpose of trafficking, and also possession of non-firearm prohibited weapon. He was found guilty of both charges.
