A man who was killed in a collision with a gravel truck on Feb. 18 in Chilliwack was here from the Philippines, according to a GoFundMe account.
Now, his family is working on bringing him back home.
The online fundraiser, Help Bring Nestor Home, is aiming to help get the body of Nestor Ferdinand Pelaez back to his family in the Philippines.
"This announcement comes with a heavy heart," says fundraising organizer Bish Kalsi. He also confirmed Pelaez was heading to his job at Earls Restaurant in Chilliwack when he "was struck by a commercial vehicle."
The collision took place at the intersection of Vedder and Promontory Roads, and Pelaez passed away at the scene.
Kalsi said while Pelaez was originally from the Philippines, he worked the last 10 years in Saudia Arabia before moving to Chilliwack last August.
"Nestor had a pleasant personality and a strong serious work ethic that was valued by all who worked alongside him," Kalsi said. "Nestor leaves behind his brothers Ariel, Noriel and sisters Portia Lyn and Lernie who are back home in the Philippines."
Money raised will help transport Nestor鈥檚 body back to his family and help pay for funeral expenses.
