PHOTOS: Abbotsford Canucks open 2024 training camp

Abbotsford Canucks training camp runs from Wednesday to Saturday inside Abbotsford Centre, all sessions free to fans

The Abbotsford Canucks opened training camp for the first time ever on home ice inside the Abbotsford Centre on Wednesday (Oct. 2) morning.

Players participated in a number of drills including breakouts, forechecking and one-on-one battles.

 

 

The on-ice sessions was free for fans to observe and about 30 fans took in the first training.

The training continues tomorrow (Thursday) and Friday (Oct. 4). Both of those sessions are free for fans to attend and the doors open at 10 a.m. Players are expected to be on the ice around 10:30 a.m. on Thursday and Friday.

 

 

The final day of training camp on Saturday (Oct. 5) will feature a scrimmage. Doors open at 10 a.m. with a puck drop set for 11 a.m. The scrimmage is also free for fans to attend. Following the scrimmage will be an opportunity for fans to meet and greet select Abbotsford Canucks players, as well as a Q and A session for fans with new head coach Manny Malhotra.

 

 

In other news related to the team, the Canucks lost the services of goalie Jiri Patera as he was claimed on waivers by the Boston Bruins. Patera was expected to play a significant role in Abbotsford this season. He was signed by the Canucks on July 1. Forward Phil Di Giuseppe and defenceman Christian Wolanin both cleared waivers earlier today.

 

 

 

Abbotsford opens the season in Calgary against the Wranglers on Oct. 11 and then host the San Diego Gulls for the home opener on Oct. 25.
