2 men charged in South Surrey shooting that sent 1 to hospital

RCMP's Surrey Gang Enforcement Team leading investigation into shooting

Two men have been charged in a shooting that sent another man to hospital.

Surrey police received reports of several shots fired in the 15100-block of 33 Avenue shortly after 11:15 p.m. Tuesday (March 11). When RCMP Surrey Provincial Operational Support Unit members attended the scene, they found one man suffering from gunshot wounds.

RCMP SPOSU Gang Enforcement Team members located a suspect vehicle in the area and arrested two men with the assistance of Integrated Police Dog Services (IPDS), a Surrey Police Service release said, adding that RCMP SPOSU's Serious Crime Unit is the lead unit overseeing the investigation. 

Mitchel Iyama, 24, has been charged with:

• Attempted murder using a firearm for the benefit of a criminal organization,

• Flight from peace officer, and

• Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

Isaiah Avery John, 21, has been charged with:

• Attempted murder using a firearm for the benefit of a criminal organization.

Both Iyama and John remain in custody and are awaiting their next scheduled court dates on March 19 and March 25, respectively, the release noted.
