is kicking off its season with a day of action at McLeod Athletic Park (MAP).
After what team organizers describe as a 鈥渓ong hot summer of practices, and some tournament, and exhibition games, the regular season is finally here!鈥
All division of the Bears kick off the action with home openers today.
The day started with the midgets team hosting a fundraiser pancake breakfast in the morning. It also feature a facepainter at the field much of the day painting NLFA logos on people鈥檚 faces. And the day included the raffling off of a BC Lions helmet - a free draw for NLFA players only.
The last games of the afternoon are Bantam Bears against North Surrey Tigers at 3:30 p.m. followed by the North 91原创 Kodiaks against the North Surrey Bears at 5:30 p.m.

鈥 Flag: The North 91原创 Bears Flag teams played two mini games against Chilliwack this past weekend with each team winning one of the two. In that game, Evan Latter (#19) took a handoff from Olivia Holt (#7) and heads down the field with great blocking from Cameron Hanlen (#1).
鈥 Peewee: The North 91原创 Bears peewee team fell just short of a win on opening day on Saturday, falling 18-13 to the Chilliwack Blue Giants.
Evan Hoy (#82) had both Bears touchdowns on the day, running one to the house on offence and recovering a fumble in the endzone on defence.
Ben Evans (#11), the Bears quarterback, also connected with Damon Bernemann (#9) and kept the ball himself on several plays.
The Bears defence, led by Aidan McMurty (#44) had some great plays and looks forward to improving on their week one showing on Sept. 9 at MacLeod Athletic Park at 11:45 a.m., when they will host the Abbotsford Black Falcons.
鈥 Junior Bantam: On Opening Day of the 25th anniversary of the North 91原创 Football program the North 91原创 Bears Junior Bantam team did not disappoint as they dominated the Chilliwack Giants Blue team 30-6.
The North 91原创 Bear鈥檚 offence, with Owen Sieben (#16) at the helm, utilized a ferocious running game to keep the Giants Blue team on their heels. Tenacious blocking by the offensive line and some great lead blocks created spacing and opportunity for Mathieu Gale (#23) and Juan Valle (#20) to combine for more than 200 yards of the teams 380 yard running game.
The Giants Blue team were the first to make it onto the score board with an early touchdown.
The Bears defence, however, would not allow another point for the Giants this game as it did not take long for the defense linemen led by second year veterans Nicholas Reimer (#55) and Ethan Sledding (#71) to expose the Giants weaknesses.
Reimer and Sledding along with Manny Fotiou (#53) repeatedly beat their opponents and brought down the Giants ball carriers behind the line of scrimmage.
Bears linebackers Cameron Neal (#84) and Jordan Williams (#11) had strong performances with some bone crushing hits as the the Bears forced the Giants to repeatedly turn the ball over on downs or punt the ball away to a hungry Bears offence.
There were high expectations of the North 91原创 Junior Bantam Bears on this opening day and they did not disappoint with an outstanding win.
鈥 Bantam: The North 91原创 Bears Bantam team fought a long tough game in the hot sun with a loss of 18-6 to the North Surrey Tigers for the season opener.
While the Bears defence managed to keep the Tigers at bay for most of the game with the help of Seth Mongroo, Ronil Chand, and Ciaran Davies all making incredible tackles, Aaron Linden was able to catch the ball and run it into the end zone before the end of the game 鈥 getting the Bears on the scoreboard.
鈥 Midget: The North 91原创 Kodiaks midget football season started this past Saturday with their home opener against the North Surrey Bears at MAP.
The game was dominated by both defences and the Kodiak鈥檚 special teams.
North Surrey opened the scoring in the first quarter with a interception returned for a touchdown bringing the score to 7-0. Kodiak kicker Charlie May kicked the first of what would be three field goals of the day early in the second to make the score 7-3 before North Surrey would score the only offensive touchdown of the game to a 14-3 lead into half time.
The Kodiaks special teams came up big in the third quarter when Kalum MacPherson blocked a North Surrey punt, recovering it in the end zone for the touchdown.
The Kodiaks would took the lead for good when Ryan Barthelson recovered a fumble and ran 60 yards for the touchdown.
Ryan Barthelson was a standout on defence for the Kodiaks all game long.
The Kodiaks used a strong running game by Drey Blair and Jared Slater to keep the Surrey offence off the field for most of the second half.
Final score: Kodiaks 23 - Bears 14
