Local scouts, beavers, and cubs groups cleaned headstones at Murrayville Cemetery

About 33 kids volunteered to clean headstones on Saturday, Nov. 9, at the Murrayville Cemetery ahead of the Remembrance ceremony.

This year, Mavericks scouter Alexis Parks predicted, there would be enough kids to tend to some of the non-veteran headstones at the cemetery as well.

"We have a huge amount of people now, more than ever, to expand [the cleaning to] more than just the headstones of the veterans, but also some of the other headstones that don't get sometimes as as much of a cleaning that they very well deserve," Parks told Black Press Media.

Scouts brought buckets, soap, and scrubbers, and got down on their hands and knees to clean headstones, despite the rain that morning, she said.

"My grandfather was part of the Korean war. So to me, it's been a thing that I've wanted to do [for a long time]," Parks said.

The Murrayville Remembrance Day ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 11, with a procession led by piper John McCallum, with music provided by Krystal McEwan. Local youth groups, including cadets, will be taking part in the event as well.

The cemetery, at 21417 44 Ave., has limited parking, and what there is will be reserved for veterans and those with mobility issues. The parking lot at the 91Ô´´ Golf Centre at 21550 44 Ave. will be open during the ceremony for guest parking.

In addition, this year people can watch both online, at , and via a livestream at the Murrayville Hall.
