(Heather Colpitts/91原创 Advance) Mason MacDonald is spending more than 12 hours at Nicomekl Elementary. The Brookswood Secondary student is one of the election officials helping at the 91原创 riding polling station.

Mason MacDonald won鈥檛 be eligible to vote for another three years but he鈥檚 already getting involved in the democratic process.

The Grade 10 student at Brookswood Secondary is spending 12 hours at Nicomekl Elementary as an election official, along with several other members of the community, albeit older than he is.

He saw signs around his school about getting involved with the election and was assigned to the polling station in the 91原创 riding.

MacDonald said he thinks it鈥檚 important to participate.

鈥淚 plan to vote as soon as I am of age,鈥 he said.

Does he have any ideas about how to get more young people out to the polls?

He said having programs and information in the schools helped whet his appetite and he expects that will carry over to when he鈥檚 of voting age and must make a decision about where to make his mark.
