Dear Editor,

I was stopped in Campbell Valley at 11:30 PM on a Saturday night by a massive RCMP roadblock checking for drunk drivers. Even though I had not been drinking, I dutifully obeyed the position of authority held by the officer. I stopped, lowered my window, and answered the questions. I still said: 鈥淵es, sir鈥� and 鈥淣o sir,鈥� regardless of what I thought of the officer鈥檚 personality 鈥� or whether he obeyed the 10 Commandments.

Recently, I entered an office to renew some insurance, sat down and the agent said,

鈥淒id you see on TV what (insert name) said about Trump?鈥�

鈥淣o鈥� I answered.

The agent repeated the vulgarity spoken by this celebrity 鈥� in public 鈥� against Mr. Trump

Since Mr. Trump was elected, I have traveled overseas many times. In virtually every airport, every airport lounge and every hotel lobby from Africa to Armenia, the television plays constant negative news about Mr. Trump.

We were taught as kids that it was OK to have a personal opinion, but 鈥淩espect the position of the person in authority regardless of their personality.鈥�

Premier Horgan, Prime Minister Trudeau 鈥� and President Trump 鈥� have respect due to them from the authority that comes with their elected position, regardless of their personality 鈥� not whether I agree with them, or even like them!
