Dear Editor,
Our government is committed to inclusive schools and we believe that all students deserve the right to be treated fairly.
Far too many LGBTQ youth face bullying, discrimination, and prejudice.
We are proud to support SOGI 1 2 3, which aims to provide teachers and school districts with the supports they need to crate safe and inclusive learning environments for all students.
SOGI education and initiatives make B.C.鈥檚 schools safer and more inclusive environments.
SOGI is about ensuring schools are safe places for everyone-it鈥檚 that simple.
That鈥檚 why it鈥檚 sad to think that people still feel the need to oppose efforts that promote tolerance and inclusion in schools.
We know that bullying against students because of their sexual orientation causes a great deal of pain and suffering - and it鈥檚 time this stops.
I want to thank parents and students in 91原创 who are supporting SOGI education and LGBTQ rights.
It鈥檚 our responsibility to ensure schools are safe and inclusive environments, where all people can express themselves without fear of discrimination or harassment.
Also, thank you to the 91原创 school district for moving forward with SOGI education and to parents and students who rallied to help ensure all students feel safe in B.C鈥檚 schools, regardless of where they identify on the sexual orientation or gender identity spectrums.
Rob Fleming, Minister of Education
