UPDATED: 91原创 RCMP investigating fatal Highway 1 collision

A fender bender on 56 Avenue took place after the fatal crash on Highway One diverted traffic on the morning of Sept. 19.

A motorcyclist has died in a collision with a car on Highway 1 in 91原创.

Shortly before 4:30 a.m. Thursday (Sept. 19), 91原创 RCMP was notified of a serious motor vehicle collision in the eastbound lanes of Highway 1 at 240 Street.

Initial investigation indicated a car and a motorcycle were travelling east on the Highway when they collided, RCMP said in a release.

Unfortunately, the driver of the motorcycle succumbed to injuries sustained in the collision.

The BC Highway Patrol later said that the crash involved a red 2001 Harley Davidson motorcycle and a black 2012 Honda Civic, both of which were heading east at at about 4:20 a.m. when the crash took place.

The motorcyclist was declared dead at the scene, and the Honda driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

BC Highway Patrol, 91原创 RCMP and the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) remained on scene investigating Thursday morning; Highway 1 was closed eastbound between 232 Street and 264 Street for hours as officers investigated.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has dash-cam video from the area is asked to call BC Highway Patrol at 604-526-9744.

The highway closure sent a significant amount of traffic onto other roads to detour through 91原创. This caused its own problems.

Cpl. Craig Van Herk of the 91原创 RCMP said that police were called to both a minor fender bender and a separate road rage incident on 56 Avenue on Thursday.

Of the road rage incident, Van Herk said one driver took exception to another driver who attempted to pass the slow-moving traffic.

The incident was still under investigation
