Heading into week nine of the season, 91原创鈥檚 junior football team 鈥� the 91原创 Rams 鈥� have to some catching up to do.
The team fell to the Westshore Rebels 33-28 in Saturday鈥檚 game at McLeod Athletic Park.
Joe Carter (#27) scored two touch downs, while Colby Peters (#10) recorded one. Jonaus Levac, put 10 points on the board.
In his weekly BC Football Conference commentary of the play, Dominic Abassi, blasted the Rams, saying they blew a big opportunity against the Rebels.
鈥淭hey gave up a come behind win,鈥� Abassi said. 鈥淲ill this Rams team show up and show some desperation and finally challenge a top team in this league,鈥� he added, calling out the 91原创 team.
Despite what Abassi describes as a bad showing, the Rams are still ranked in the top 10 best teams across the country in the Canadian Junior Football League. They鈥檙e currently ninth out of the best 10.
Rylan Matters is leading the team with 971 passing yards, while Nathan Lund is on the leader board with 379 rushing yards. And Khalik Johnson is the receiving yards leader at 609, while Isaiah Steward leads with 17 tackles.
Just last week, the Rams lost their head coach Khari Joseph, Jeff Alamolhoda stepping up in the interim and returning to a position he held for several years.
With just three games left in the season, he stepped down citing personal reasons. Joseph was in his second season as head coach, but had been on staff for five years.
With only two weeks left in regular season play, the Rams take on the Okanagan Sun in the Kelowna Apple Bowl on Sunday afternoon.
Poker fun
In the meantime, the 91原创 Rams are betting that there鈥檚 lots of people who want to spend an evening playing poker.
The junior football club鈥檚 second annual poker fundraiser kicks off Friday, Sept. 29 at 6 p.m. with socializing in the McLeod Athletic Park Rotary Field House.
The tournament rules are reviewed and the first hand is dealt at 7 p.m. sharp.
In addition to cards, there鈥檚 a 50/50 and raffles. The silent auction includes sports items, such as BC Lions andCanucks tickets but also restaurant/bakery prizes and more.
