It may be off season for the Vancouver Giants hockey league, but there鈥檚 still a fair amount of action for the 91原创-based team of late.

The G-Men announced signing of 2002-born forward Justin Sourdif to a Western Hockey League standard player agreement on Friday.

The Giants selected Sourdif with the third overall pick in the 2017 WHL bantam draft, explained general manager Glen Hanlon.

鈥淚t鈥檚 a privilege for our organization to sign a local product like Justin,鈥 he said of the Surrey player.

鈥淗e will have the chance to continue his hockey career in the Lower Mainland, and his family will be able to watch him for years to come wearing a Giants sweater. Justin is an all-around player who is strong physically and has terrific offensive awareness,鈥 Hanlon said.

Sourdif played for the Delta Hockey Academy鈥檚 bantam prep team during the 2016-17 season.

The 5 ft. 10 in., 158-lb forward amassed 32 goals and 34 assists in 29 regular season games and helped Delta to the CSSHL鈥檚 bantam prep division championship game.

Sourdif took part in the 2017 U16 BC Cup in April, leading the tournament in scoring with five goals and four assists in four games while playing for the victorious Team White.

He will also attend the BC U16 Summer Camp in July.

鈥淚鈥檓 pretty excited,鈥 said Sourdif of signing with the Giants.

鈥淚 was happy to finally have that piece of paper in front of me and to share the moment of signing the contract with my Mom and Dad. I鈥檓 looking forward to the future with the Giants.鈥

Per WHL rules, Sourdif will only be eligible to suit up in five games for the Giants in 2017-18 before his midget season comes to an end.

Vancouver Giants season tickets for 2017-18 are already on sale, and buyers will be given priority access to tickets for the 2019 IIHF World Junior Championships. For more information, fans can call 604-444-2687 or .
