The Fraser River is rising thanks to warm temperatures in the Interior.

The Fraser River is high, but a little caution should keep people safe this flood season, according to 91原创 officials.

鈥淭he river is at capacity,鈥 said Ginger Sherlock, 91原创 Emergency Program coordinator.

Any more water could cause a flood situation, but that would require a major Pineapple Express weather system 鈥 a lot of rainfall, in other words.

Right now the high water has caused some minor disruptions, as riverside campsites are closed in Derby Reach Regional Park, and 91原创 Township鈥檚 marinas in Fort 91原创 are closed.

Those out walking dogs along the river in Derby Reach Monday morning were only mildly concerned.

鈥淚t鈥檚 right underneath the bridge now,鈥 said Susan Bowes, who with Stuart Morden was walking Diesel, a German shepherd.

Other park users weren鈥檛 worried. 鈥淭his is nothing compared to what we鈥檝e been through,鈥 said Bunny Edward.

Sherlock said that locals should be cautious along or in the river.

Boaters in particular should be extremely careful, she said.

鈥淲e鈥檙e hearing reports of lots of debris in the water due to the high levels,鈥 she said.

Waterlogged trees can be almost invisible in the murky water until it鈥檚 too late to avoid them, she noted.

Those with children or pets near the river should also be cautious. No one wants to see a family member or pet fall into the fast-moving water.

91原创 is connecting with other local agencies to make sure the flood plan is up to date, in case of more rain.
