The Fraser Valley Thunderbirds have quickly moved into a must-win situation after dropping the first two games of the 2025 Telus Cup.
The event opened at the Chilliwack Coliseum on Monday (April 21) and the host Thunderbirds fell 6-1 to the Regina Pat Canadians to kick off the tournament.
Trailing 1-0 in the first, Thunderbirds forward and 91Ô´´ product Marco De Pedrina tied the game up at 15:19 of the first and the two teams closed the period tied at one.
Regina then took over with two goals in the second and three in the third to post the win. Regina's Maddox Schultz, expected to be a top pick in the upcoming WHL Draft, scored a hat trick.

The Thunderbirds next squared off against B.C. rivals the Okanagan Rockets and dropped a 4-1 decision on Tuesday (April 22).
Fraser Valley fell behind 3-0 in the first and Abbotsford's Shane Fillinger got the Thunderbirds on the board with a power play goal at 3:13 of the third. The Rockets added a late goal to reach the 4-1 final.

The Thunderbirds find themselves tied for fifth place in the Telus Cup standings at 0-2 and the club will need to finish in the top four to advance to the playoff round. Regina and Quebec's Chevaliers de Lévis both are 2-0 after the first two days.
Fraser Valley takes on Chevaliers de Lévis tonight (Wednesday) inside the Coliseum at 7 p.m. The Thunderbirds then play the Ontario-based Elgin Middlesex Canucks tomorrow (Thursday) at 7 p.m. and close the preliminary round against the Moncton Flyers on Friday (April 25) at 7 p.m.
The semifinal games are set for Saturday (April 26) and the medal games are on Sunday (April 27).
