The 66 91原创 residents displaced by fire have been found places to live, though some are still in converted lounges in Lions Society buildings.
A fatal fire on April 12 killed one resident in an upper floor apartment at the Birch building operated by the 91原创 Lions Senior Citizen Housing Society (LLSCHS).
The residents had temporary hotel housing provided by local emergency program funds, but now they have been moved to a variety of places.
There are 11 still in a hotel, said LLSCHS executive director Jeanette Dagenais, with the bills being paid by BC Housing.
Another 12 have been moved into other units within the housing complex in 91原创 City, and four are in lounges that have been converted to makeshift apartments.
A further 27 are being looked after by family or friends, and three have moved to assisted living.
As for when some of the residents can return, it will be between weeks and months.
The first to return will be the first floor of the Birch鈥檚 south wing, which could be in a few weeks. Second and third floor residents will follow later.
鈥淭he north wing is out for about eight months,鈥 said Dagenais.
Water damage is the main issue for repair and restoration, she said.
Asbestos was disturbed by the firefighing efforts.
鈥淭he suth wing has been cleared, the north wing is being tested for clearance,鈥 Dagenais said.
While BC Housing is contributing to some of the costs, Dagenais had no estimate for how much efforts are costing the society.
The fire began in the early morning hours and likely started due to discarded smoking materials, firefighters concluded. The resident of the suite where it began was killed.
