The University of the Fraser Valley is putting a comic twist on a dark storyline 鈥� literally.

The costumes, set, hair and makeup for Problem Child, running March 7 to 17, will be done in a comic book style, making the action appear to jump right out of the pages of a book.

鈥淭his approach enhances the comic nature of an otherwise dark and cruel storyline and is sure to intrigue audiences,鈥� the university said in a press release.

Problem Child, by George F. Walker, tells the story of Denise, a former drug addict and sex worker, and R.J., a current television addict and ex-con, as they struggle to get their baby out of the system and back into their arms. Standing in their way are a by-the-book social worker, a dreadful accident, and some very bad decisions.

The show includes 91原创 talents Jamye Gallawan as the props builder and Makaila Palliyaguru as assistant scenographer.

Directed by UFV faculty member Ra蠆na von Waldenburg, this is the third production of the university鈥檚 2017-18 Season of Theatre. The season will conclude April 25-27 with public performances of final projects from the 2017/18 directing class.

Performances of Problem Child take place Wednesday to Saturday at either 4:30 and 7 p.m. See the full schedule at .

Tickets are available at the door for cash only, and are 鈥減ay-what-you-can,鈥� with suggested prices of $15 for adults, $10 for students/seniors.
