String quartet kicks off season of sounds

Rose Gellert String Quartet performs Nov. 15.

It's fall, and the Rose Gellert String Quartet is back performing in its namesake concert hall to kick off the music season in style.

The quartet will be opening its concert season on Friday, Nov. 15, at the 91原创 Community Music School (LCMS), showcasing some of the member's favourite chamber music.

鈥淭his will be a gorgeous program, and we are happy to invite the community to join us for a beautiful evening of music,鈥 said LCMS principal Carolyn Granholm. 

The quartet is the school鈥檚 ensemble in residence and is made up of professional musicians who share the joy of live music throughout the community, namely violinists Will Chen and Llowyn Ball, violist Peter Ing, and cellist Ben Goheen.

Their evening concert will include an iconic pillar of the chamber music repertoire, Franz Schubert鈥檚 String Quartet No. 14 in d minor, 鈥楧eath and the Maiden,鈥 as well as one of Anton铆n Dvorak鈥檚 most popular pieces, the melodic and harmonic String Quartet No. 12 in F major, Op. 96, B. 179. "American Quartet," will also be performed, as well as Ludwig van Beethoven鈥檚 stunningly rhythmic String Quartet No. 6 in B-flat major, Op. 18, No. 6, "La Malinconia." 

The Rose Gellert String Quartet concert on Friday, Nov. 15 begins at 7 p.m., and tickets are $25 for adults, $23 for seniors, and $10 for students from Eventbrite or by calling the box office at 604-534-2848.

Also coming up on the LCMS' professional concert series at the Rose Gellert Hall are The Four Jays, performing Nov. 23,at 7:30 p.m.; LCMS faculty with a variety of instruments, performing Dec. 1 at 2:30 p.m.; percussionist Katie Rife performing Jan. 26 at 2:30 p.m.; pianist Jane Coop, piano amd cellist Henry Shapard on March 1 at 7:30 p.m.; violinist David Lakirovich and pianist Sunny Qu on March 9 at 2:30 p.m.; Quartetto Gelato performing April 12 at 7:30 p.m.; Pocket Symphonies with violinist Jasper Wood, cellist Joseph Elworthy, and the Bergmann Piano Duo performing May 3 at 7:30 p.m.; and Paolo Bortolussi on flute and Corey Hamm on piano on April 7 at 2:30 p.m.
