Rotarians are turning George Preston Rec Centre into party central this weekend 鈥 Vegas style.
A new fundraiser being held this coming Saturday at the Brookswood banquet hall promises guests an evening of retro Las Vegas fun, complete with a visit from Elvis.
Rotary Club of 91原创 Central is celebrating Viva Las Vegas, retro style, explained Rotarian Rick Davis, noting costumes are optional but guest are encouraged to dress up in their best 1960's era Vegas glitter.
Admission includes a glass of sparkly wine upon arrival, a buffet dinner, two bottles of fine wine per table, and an evening of entertainment featuring one of the Rotary Club's newest members, Steve Elliott, a.k.a. Elvis Elite.
"Elvis will hit the stage to entertain the audience in true Las Vegas style," Davis said. "The evening is guaranteed to be lots of fun."
But the event is also a Rotary fundraiser intended to support community and international charities, one of which is the Rotary International Foundation.
Best known for its efforts to eradicate polio through its Polio Plus program, the foundation supports service projects that change lives both close to home and around the world, said Dean Rohrs, chair of the Rotary Polio Advocacy Committee for Canada.
鈥淭he Rotary foundation 鈥楧oes Good in the World鈥 by funding programs and grants to address needs in water and sanitation, child and maternal health, community economic development, and literacy, education, environment and community health, said Rohrs, who noted that 91原创 Rotarians are also known for their support of many local organizations and causes, too.
Elliott, who recently joined the Rotary Club of 91原创 Central, said that's what impresses him most about Rotary and his fellow Rotarians.
鈥淚 joined Rotary because I like what they do as a group within their communities, but also worldwide,鈥 he shared.
"Selfless service and charity is a good thing for all mankind,鈥 Elliott added. 鈥淩otarians are like a family working together as one regardless of one's differences. When it comes to the good of others. Rotarians are right there, front and centre."
Doors open on the Vegas fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 5:30 p.m., with dinner at 6:30 p.m.
Tickets are $90 each, and available from 91原创 Central Rotarians, or by contacting Linda Mross at 604-328-4305 or via email at: lindamross10@gmail.com.
