Renowned piano trio brings 25th anniversary tour to 91原创

The Gryphon Trio play 91原创 Community Music School鈥檚 Rose Gellert Hall Saturday, Jan. 27

One of Canada鈥檚 leading piano trios is coming to 91原创.

The will perform at 91原创 Community Music School鈥檚 Rose Gellert Hall on Saturday, Jan. 27 at 7:30 p.m., as part of their 25-year anniversary tour.

Featuring violinist Annalee Patipatanakoon, cellist Roman Borys and pianist Jamie Parker, the Gryphon Trio is known for its highly refined, dynamic and memorable performances, ranging from the classics to contemporary.

The program will include Joseph Haydn (1732-1809) Piano Trio No. 45 in E-flat Major, Hob. XV:29 and Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) Piano Trio No. 1 in B Major, Op. 8, and the contemporary Canadian work of Dinuk Wijeratne (b. 1978) Love Triangle (2013).

The classical works of Brahms and Haydn are renowned for their depth, sensitivity and mystery, and the contemporary music of Dinuk Wijeratne鈥檚 Love Triangle (written specifically for Gryphon Trio) is rhapsodical.

The trio will also be giving a master class with LCMS students open to the public that same day from 2 to 4 p.m. Admission to that is free.

鈥淚 am especially happy to welcome back the Gryphon Trio who performed at LCMS several years ago to great acclaim,鈥 said LCMS artistic director Elizabeth Bergmann.

鈥淎s Canada鈥檚 leading piano trio, we can expect to experience their remarkable musical collaboration and lively communication with one another. Their beautiful performances reflect 25 years of a personal and musical relationship that has been continuously evolving. LCMS is delighted the trio has included 91原创 on this special tour.鈥

The Gryphon Trio is considered one of the most committed commissioners and performers of current day Canadian composers. To date, they have premiered or commissioned more then 75 new works and frequently collaborate on projects that push the boundaries of chamber music.

The Trio tours regularly throughout North America and Europe and their 19 recordings are an encyclopedia of works for the genre. Honours include two Juno Awards for 鈥楥lassical Album of the Year,鈥 and the prestigious 2013 Walter Carsen Prize for 鈥楨xcellence in the Performing Arts鈥 from the Canada Council for the Arts.

The trio are currently Artists-in-Residence at the University of Toronto鈥檚 Faculty of Music and Trinity College.
