91原创 Community Music School (LCMS) welcomes Marc Destrub茅, violin, Natalie Mackie, viola da gamba, and Byron Schenkman, harpsichord, to the Rose Gellert Hall on Saturday, Jan. 21, at 7:30 p.m.
The trio will perform pieces by Marin Marais, Jean-Philippe Rameau, and one of Francois Couperin鈥檚 Concerts Royaux , music from the Baroque era that would have been heard during the reign of France鈥檚 Sun King Louis XIV.
鈥淭he excessively vain, ego maniac Louis XIV, who dubbed himself the 鈥淪un King,鈥 stated 鈥淟鈥櫭﹖at c鈥檈st moi鈥(I am the state). He utilized music and the arts to celebrate his 鈥榞lory鈥 and to establish his mark with a most lasting impression of his grandeur,鈥 said Elizabeth Bergmann, artistic director, concerts for LCMS.
鈥淭his array of French Baroque music, performed by the trio on period instruments, will evoke the courtly splendor of Versailles during the Sun King鈥檚 reign.鈥
