91原创 residents will now be able to peep into the world of augmented reality (AR) as multiple murals in the City鈥檚 downtown core have been transformed to offer people a three-dimensional experience.

Through its 鈥榤oving murals鈥 initiative, the Downtown 91原创 Business Association (DLBA) has brought many murals to life with AR technology. AR offers an interactive experience where real-world objects are enhanced by computer-generated perceptual information.

By scanning QR codes located near each activated mural, users can access the AR component. People would need a smartphone or tablet, as well as Instagram to bring the murals to life, explained Teri James, executive director of the association.

In simpler terms, the technology will allow people to see elements of the murals moving, while also allowing them to take photographs and videos of themselves with the moving art form.

鈥淥ur Downtown 91原创 Mural Walk has been a popular attraction since it began, and the moving murals component has just taken that interest to the next level,鈥 James said.

鈥淵ou can see bees flying and landing on flowers, images popping right off the wall, and you can even grow yourself a pair of angel wings. These murals really do bring the art to life,鈥 she elaborated.

While many of the murals in downtown 91原创 have been around for years, the 鈥榤oving murals鈥 were launched in October 2021 to add a new experience to selected murals.

Flower Power is amongst the ones recently transformed through AR. This mural, located at 20251 Fraser Hwy., beside C-Lovers Fish & Chips, features colourful daisies and has attracted many social media influencers to it like 鈥 well, bees to a flower.

鈥淚t has been a favourite with influencers in the community,鈥 James said.

The augmented reality experience brings the daisies to life as they pop off the wall and spin.

鈥淭here is also an additional surprise animation revealed when you have another person stand in front of the camera,鈥 shared an elated James.

Currently, there are seven murals in total that have been transformed through AR technology.
