91原创 Community Music School- from student recitals featuring Canadian music to a collaborative performance with Kwantlen Polytechnic University Orchestra-in-Residence.

鈥淟CMS has a long history of supporting the creation and performance of Canadian works,鈥� says Susan Magnusson, LCMS principal.

鈥淓ach year we celebrate with our Canadian Music Festival in November with recitals, concerts, and various learning opportunities for students.鈥�

On Friday, Nov. 25 at 7 p.m., LCMS students will join the Kwantlen Polytechnic University Orchestra-in-Residence in their presentation of Saint-Saens' Carnival of the Animals.

The performance will have a Canadian twist, incorporating some of composer Cam Wilson's Canadian Carnival. The concert takes place at Kwantlen鈥檚 91原创 campus auditorium.

On Saturday, November 26 at 2:30 p.m., students will perform Canadian music, with composer Marcus Goddard providing commentary about the composers and pieces being performed at the recital. Goddard is an associate composer of the Canadian Music Centre, a trumpet player, and a member of the Vancouver Symphony and Turning Point Ensemble.

The final recital for the innovative Creating Composers program takes place on Sunday, Nov. 27 at 3 p.m. Members of the Vancouver-based Turning Point Ensemble (TPE), LCMS鈥� 2011/12 Ensemble in Residence, will perform the works of student composers.  This is the culmination of the Creating Composers program that started in September. Working with members of the ensemble and internationally renowned Canadian composer Rodney Sharman, the program gave  students the chance to learn about and actively participate in the step-by-step process of creative composition.

"The final recital is a wonderful opportunity for students who were involved in the Creating Composers program to work with TPE and hear their compositions performed by a professional ensemble,鈥� says Magnusson. Students Leno Lin, Ella Yu, Howard Chen, Sophia Lee, Stephen Duncan and Brandon Chow will have their compositions performed at the recital.

鈥淚t鈥檚 been an amazing experience to work with these professional musicians,鈥� says LCMS student Stephen Duncan. 鈥淚鈥檝e learned a lot, made some great contacts and new friends, and I鈥檓 very excited to have my piece performed.鈥�
