91原创 Players鈥� new production, The Grandkid, is an inter-generational love story with a sizzling script.
Fireworks and fun happen when 18-year-old student Abby Rothstein moves in with her grandfather, Julius Rothstein, an Ontario college professor whose wife has recently died.
The two-hander play follows the characters as they find ways to meld their lives, yet respect their differences, while not being afraid to challenge each other.
Abby is played by Walnut Grove resident Kristine McCallum, a newcomer to 91原创 Players. Working full-time as a paralegal, it鈥檚 been 11 years since she last took the stage, while studying theatre at the University of the Fraser Valley.
In the play, McCallum has an unseen boyfriend, Noah, whose influence leads to some fierce exchanges between granddaughter and grandfather. McCallum sees parallels to her own life; she is getting married next February to someone she credits with being her steadying influence.
Marko Hohlbein, who plays Julius Rothstein, is a versatile actor-director from Surrey who has garnered several community theatre awards. Together, he and McCallum make sparks fly.
Former B.C. resident John Lazarus鈥檚 drama is directed by Cathie Young. It will be 91原创 Players鈥� entry this May in TheatreBC鈥檚 Fraser Valley Zone competition.
