Clear skies and mild temperatures allowed families to turn out in big numbers for the SouthRidge Church Pumpkin Fest on Friday evening.
The church volunteers created a drive-thru activity that included games, music, treats and prizes.
鈥淭hroughout the event we heard that people were excited to be able to get out into their community and see people serving others, meeting community needs and having someone different to talk to even if it was for five minutes,鈥� said Kelly de Jong, with the church. 鈥淪outhRidge is planning on inviting our 91原创 residents to more events like this as we feel it鈥檚 so important to provide people with COVID-friendly activities leading up to Christmas.鈥�
As people entered, they were able to drop of food or cash donations for the 91原创 Food Bank before trying their luck at games such as pumpkin sling shot, pumpkin bowling, ring toss, mini golf and more.
More than 65 families participated in this event donated approximately $800 in cash and many other items.
Donations included more than 15 cases of soup, four cases of diapers, at least 11 boxes of cereal as well as bags of canned goods, crackers, granola bars, cookies, pasta, toilet paper and more.
鈥淲e as a church have decided to double the cash donation making it a total of $1,600 towards the 91原创 Food Bank,鈥� de Jong added.
Volunteers at the various game and activity stations provided instructions and kept families separated as they enjoyed the circuit through the church grounds.
