The 91原创 Community Music School (LCMS) is welcoming Juno award winning clarinetist, James Campbell, in a special Rose Gellert concert on Friday, April 28.

Campbell will be joined by renowned pianist Marcel Bergmann for the performance, which begins at 7:30 p.m.

As the final Rose Gellert concert of the season, Campbell and Bergmann will be presenting a varied and eclectic program of classical and jazz works. Pieces range from the late clarinet sonata by Saint-Saens to jazz and Latin idioms, such as Images Entre Nous by Canadian jazz musician Phil Nimmons, and David Baker鈥檚 Dance, a movement from his clarinet sonata.

鈥淭he repertoire features many different styles and moods 鈥 from the lyrical and introverted to swing and driven Latin rhythms,鈥 said LCMS artistic director, Elizabeth Bergmann.

鈥淐ampbell鈥檚 personal connection with some of the composers and their works promise to make this an enjoyable and inspired concert. And Marcel鈥檚 talent for blending the best of jazz and classical will make for an evening that is sure to be terrific fun.鈥

Campbell has more than 40 recordings and 30 commissioned works, and has earned multiple awards, including a Juno Award (Stolen Jems), a Roy Thomson Hall Award, Canada鈥檚 Artist of the Year, the Queen鈥檚 Golden Jubilee Medal, and the Order of Canada.

To complement Campbell鈥檚 clarinet, Bergmann, who is a LCMS faculty member, will join him on piano. He has recorded for the CBC, ARD (Germany), NPR (USA), and multiple well-known labels.

Tickets are $25 for adults, $22 for seniors, $16 for students, and $10 for LCMS students. To purchase, call the box office at 604-534-2848 or visit langleymusic.com.
