Alan Howchin was just a nice, friendly guy 鈥 someone who brought a cheerful attitude and positive approach to everything he did.

He married his wife Max last August and died on April 9 at the age of 64, just a few months after being diagnosed with colon cancer.

But that鈥檚 not where Howchin鈥檚 story ends.

His coworkers at ID Salon in Fort 91原创 are making sure of that.

Instead, they decided to honour Howchin鈥檚 memory with a night of live music, tasty food, martinis and good company.

Kick Butt! for Alan 鈥 a fundraising night for the Canadian Cancer Society 鈥 happens on Monday, June 27 at  Eighteen 27 Piano and Martini Bistro.

鈥淚t is exactly the type of thing Alan would have enjoyed 鈥 mixing with women,鈥 said Teresa Rice, one of the event鈥檚 organizers.

鈥淲e hope to make (the fundraiser) a yearly event, to raise money and increase awareness,鈥 she said.

Rice and Beeuwke Dangerfield, the owner of ID Salon, were inspired by both the tragedy of their friend鈥檚 untimely death and the opportunity to create something positive from the loss.

鈥淲e鈥檝e done fundraisers in the past and this was a chance to do another,鈥 said Dangerfield, who knew Howchin for 17 years.

鈥淎lan was just super friendly and very cheerful. He loved everything, he loved life.

鈥淗e was an upbeat and friendly person.鈥

That outlook, said Rice, was summed up by Howchin鈥檚 credo in life: 鈥淓very woman is a goddess and I make the world more sexy, one woman at a time.鈥

Tickets to Kick Butt! for Alan are $50 each. That includes a martini and a choice of entrees.

Guests will be treated to a live performance by Fort 91原创 guitarist John Gilliat who has taken his fiery world beat fusion of rhumba, flamenco and Latin jazz all across Canada, the U.S. and Japan.

There will also be an opportunity to bid on a couture dress designed by Evan Biddell 鈥 the first winner of Project Runway Canada 鈥 in a live auction, which  will include items from The Fort Winery, Future Shop and Eighteen 27.

The event will run from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. For tickets or information, call Rice at 778-552-0155 or ID Salon at 604-882-8600.

Eighteen 27 is located at 9185 Glover Rd. in Fort 91原创.
